Advanced Control Systems

TMP Advanced Control Systems for Compression, Lamination and Vacuum Molding

At the heart of the hydraulic press molding processes are TMP’s state-of-the-art Control Systems. The TMP-designed and supported controls are microprocessor-based systems designed to improve product quality through better pressing accuracy, repeatability, versatile process control programming and monitoring of data for analysis.

TMP offers two standard control systems, proven for their ability to precision-mold or laminate a wide range of materials and products.

CPS Controls for Compression Molding

The CPS system is designed for molding of thermoset (rubber) material and is applicable to straight compression molding, hot or cold pot transfer molding, and transfer press molding. It offers multiple segments of pressure control with the ability to accurately control the rate of pressure application to the molding process and includes degassing if desired.

“Edge” Controls for Composite and Laminate Molding

The Edge system is designed for laminating of thermoset laminates and thermoplastic laminates. It offers multiple segments of pressure and temperature ramping control and is designed for heated and cooled hydraulic presses or hot and cold press systems. The Edge system allows customers to control pressure and temperature based on time and/or product temperature.

The Edge system can include a central process station computer that provides for unlimited storage of recipes, unlimited historical storage of process data and process alarms, as well as real time monitoring of multiple hydraulic press systems. All data may be displayed as time based trend graphics.

CPS and Edge control systems offer you:

Programmable compression profiles with multiple set points for pressure, time, pressure application rates and velocity, giving you precise, versatile control of the material flow/part forming process
Industrial hardened color touch-screen operator interface with user-friendly displays showing all machine set-points and actual data, instant graphics, alarms, recipe control and diagnostics
Convenient IT integration with plant supervisory control and data acquisition systems, Ethernet LAN typical
TMP-designed platens and heating systems with multi-zone platen temperature control and fault detection reducing prolonged process degradation caused by burned out heaters, blown fuses or other problems on electric platens
Hydraulic system allows simultaneous press functions by using proportional valves, linear displacement transducers and pre-fill techniques. TMP’s hydraulic systems are accurate, reliable, efficient and highly responsive.

Comparison of recipe actual vs. set point on a single screen
Manual mode set-point control
Password protection at engineering and operator levels
Visual and audible alarms
Platen temperature monitoring and PID loop control
Fault detection of press operating components
